Reference Case: Pure Electrical Bus Passed the Whole Vehicle Type Approval - Italy

The leading bus manufacturer in China, Jiangsu Alfa Bus Co. Ltd., developed a pure electric bus. An Italian bus operator wanted to purchase a large number of these buses for the public transport system in Italy’s Grosseto Province.

In order to export the electric Alfa Bus to Italy, the vehicle had to pass the European Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA). This very strict certification system for whole vehicles and safety parts or systems can be enforced in all EU member countries. As an experienced and reliable partner, TÜV Rheinland was asked to maintain the certification process in this case.

To ensure the successful export of the Alfa Bus, TÜV Rheinland experts carried out a series of inspections over a six-month period. A total of 26 certification items was covered during this process.

TÜV Rheinland's rich experience and technical expertise in vehicle inspection and cert guarantee high standards for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) as well as the safety and environmental performance of electric vehicles. It was well worth the effort, resulting in all 26 certification items passing the WVTA certification process. Finally, Jiangsu Alfa Bus Co. Ltd. is able to sell its first pure electric bus for use in Italy.
