USA - Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 214, Side Impact Protection, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 305a, Electric-Powered Vehicles: Electric Powertrain Integrity, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 307, Fuel System Integrity

​The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) published a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) (notified as G/TBT/N/USA/57/Rev.1) proposing to remove obsolete requirements from Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 214, ''Side Impact Protection.'' 
The agency received two comments that supported the changes to FMVSS No. 214. 
In addition, one of the commenters suggested amendments to remove additional obsolete regulatory text. 
NHTSA is adopting the proposed changes with amendments made in response to the comments. 
The final rule also amends FMVSS No. 305a, ''Electric-Powered Vehicles: Electric Powertrain Integrity'' (G/TBT/N/USA/2113) and FMVSS No. 307, ''Fuel System Integrity of Hydrogen Vehicles'' (G/TBT/N/USA/2114) to delete reference to sections of FMVSS No. 214 removed by this final rule.
Effective Date: July 6,2026.
