Mexico - Chamber of Deputies Approved Dissolution of Autonomous Bodies Including Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFETEL)

On November 21, 2024, according to the newsletter from the Chamber of Deputies, it was announced that the dissolution of 7 autonomous bodies in the General Assembly, including Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFETEL)​, has been approved.

On November 28, 2024 the General Congress of Mexico issued a Decree amending, adding and repealing various provisions of the Organic Law of the Federal Public Administration. It was mentioned that the Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency shall take up responsibilities previously handled by IFETEL, which includes:

 - To formulate and conduct the policies of digital inclusion, digital government, information technology, communication and telecommunications of the Federal Public Administration

 - To prepare and conduct the telecommunications and broadcasting policies of the Federal Government

On November 29, 2024, IFETEL issued a press release​ to state its position regarding the reform approved by the Congress on dissolution of this Regulatory Body.
